Weight Loss in Ten Minutes

By Dr. Lisa Ann Homic, M.Ed. D.C.

Weight loss does not happen quickly for most people, but there is a critical point that becomes so motivating, success seems to be effortless and permanent.

This success has nothing to do with the latest supplement touted on infomercials. They may be helpful but they are not the reason people lose weight. New fangled gym equipment is not the secret either, although exercise is important and a convenient workout allows people to stick to a fitness routine. Pre-made diet meals are useful when pressed for time, but they are not the only ingredient in successful weight loss.

There is a critical point when someone truly desires to commit to a new health plan. For many people who have been overweight for years, being in shape is a long lost memory rather than a reality. The thought of beginning the challenge seems impossible. Over weight issues are so commonplace the underlying message is that it is the norm. When everything is super-sized the temptation is hard to refuse. Modern day diseases that are life-style related are now treated with maintenance drugs that ironically make it more difficult to lose weight. It is as if our culture is trying not to let us reach that critical point to welcome better health in our lives.

When people lose weight successfully and quickly there are two common denominators. They reach a point where they realize they were much too comfortable with their excuses and then they chose a manageable eating plan that did not leave them feeling deprived. Discovering these realizations helps people get past the indecision that prevents them from succeeding.

Of course, losing weight must be done in a safe manner. Although it takes a number of months to achieve weight loss, the benefits are felt immediately. The empowerment of a committed decision is just the beginning. A manageable weight loss plan restores someone’s energy level so there is a feeling of thin even if the scale doesn’t reveal the goal weight yet.

Being able to replace an old mind set of impossibility with accomplishment is the greatest weight loss there is. If you can lose the weight of failure, the actual weight loss is easy.

Intuitive Eating - 3 Quick Ways Intuitive Eating Will Help You Lose Weight

By Nancy Hill

Mysterious? Mystical? Difficult? No, intuitive eating is none of those things. It’s actually our birthright and the most natural way to live. It’s what we did instinctively as children.

There is a reason no current diet fads are sweeping the nation. It’s because all that deprivation, starvation, and struggle don’t work and haven’t worked during the 100 year history of dieting. Look around at the people in your everyday life and it’s obvious that all that dieting hasn’t worked.

Instead, intuitive eating is an easy, graceful, natural approach to food. All we have to do is relearn a few simple things:

1. You have a brain in your belly. The medical community calls it the enteric system and it will guide you to the perfect foods, in the perfect amounts for your body to be its ideal weight. All you have to do is practice following the guidance it is constantly giving you.

2. Food is a wonderful, sensual part of life. Slowing down to really taste and enjoy your food will not only give you a delightful experience while you eat, it will also help you eat much less. As you practice mindful eating, you will find yourself enjoying food more and eating less.

3. Treat yourself well. You only get this one body and it is a wonder of creation. You deserve fresh air. You deserve wholesome, whole foods. Deprivation and struggle don’t create a joyful life or a healthy body. Give your body the delights of delicious, unprocessed foods and playful movement as a way of taking loving care of yourself.

As you incorporate these new, entirely natural behaviors into your life, you will find you lose weight without having to make a great effort. Your body was born to be healthy and fit. You are naturally wired to be a normal weight. Honoring and listening to the natural wisdom of your body are skills that can be relearned. Intuitive eating is a powerful tool that will return you to your personal ideal weight with ease and grace.

If you’re looking for a real, long-term solution to ending the battle with your weight, intuitive eating may just be the answer you’ve been seeking.

Garcinia Cambogia And Weight Loss

Common Names: Garcinia Cambogia, Brindleberry, Hydroxycitric
Acid (HCA)

Garcinia Cambogia is an herbal supplement which help people
to lose weight. It has an ingredient called Hydroxycitrate
or called hydroxycitric acid. Garcinia cambogia is a
yellowish pumpkin shaped tropical tree fruit native to the
country of India. In 1965, researchers identified HCA as the
principle acid found in the fruit and rind of Garcinia
cambogia.

This hydroxycitrate helps in the promotion of lipids, which
oxidize and spares carbohydrate utilization. Garcinia
extract is isolated from the fruit of the Garcinia cambogia
and is used to be an agent that can prevent obesity.

In addition to that the physio-chemical properties of the
hydroxycitric acid extract that was derived fro Garcinia
Cambogia has big effect on body weight, other selected organ
weights, hepatic lipid peroxidation and DNA fragmentation.

The results with these extracts from garcinia is said to
inhibit droplet of lipids which accumulates in fat cells
without giving any effect adipose conversion.

Is Your Body A Well Tuned Engine?

By Beverley Clement

Is your body a well tuned engine? Now that might make you smile but think about it carefully.

What do you think about when you heard the words engines and cars? For many people they have no idea about either and it is assumed that women know even less on the subject than men.

Around 20 years ago we had a problem with our car, the petrol pump died. You may say big deal what has that to do with anything, lots, just stay with me here. We rang the garage who informed us they could get the part and repair the car in 3 weeks time. Not good enough because we needed the car and we needed it today. My husband had just moved away for work and I did what I thought was the next thing to try. I rang a company that supplied parts and asked if they had the relevant petrol pump in stock and they did at a cheap price. I ordered it and then panic set in. Here I was with a car that didn't work, and a part arriving the next day and I knew nothing about car mechanics. Answer. I went out and bought a guide which took me step by step in fitting the part. Being brave or foolish depends on where you sit I removed the old part and fitted the new one. I also realised from reading the book that the carburettor was in need of tuning. I did it at the same time. Moral of the story is that anyone can do car mechanics with the right parts and right information.

But seriously back to our bodies, we can look at cars on the road and see all types around. Many won't know one make from another but let a roller (Rolls Royce) drive pass and most people will recognise it and certainly turn to look at it. On the other extreme a bashed up old car which looks ready for the scrap yard also gets comments but not nice comments either.

Now the question today what is your body like? Is it like a car bashed and beaten and looking ready for the scrap yard or is it like a beautiful Rolls Royce or a car anywhere in between? You see a car might be old but in really good condition. The owner has taken a lot of care and has pride about their car. Most car owners take more pride and care of their cars than their own bodies. Look at cars in future and then look at the owner. Don't judge them but look and learn. You might be looking at another member of the newsletter.

Car owners know what fuel to put into their car. They know whether it is petrol/gas or diesel and what octane to use. They know that if they put diesel into a petrol/gas engine then the car isn't going anywhere. But most people give no thoughts about the fuel they are putting into their body. Anything will do for many people, just grab the nearest thing and it will get eaten. And what is the result of this action, unhealthy overweight bodies.

Now imagine you have a 200 mile journey and you only put one gallon of fuel into the car. Well unless you have a car which does that sort of mpg the answer is you are going to stop, and unless you are close to a petrol station you will need to call out someone to help you. But many people eat so little during the day and then they wonder why they have no energy or are unable to achieve anything. If you filled up the fuel tank in your car then the car doesn't waste the fuel it will still do the same mpg unless you drive like a maniac but the same should be true with our bodies we give it enough food to allow it to use it when it is needed.

TIP: Did you know that if you eat too little then the body goes into starvation mode and everything you eat is automatically turned into fat.

Cars also need water. Have you tried running your car with no water in the radiator? What happens? I am sure you have been on the road on a hot day and seen many cars with their hood/bonnet raise and steam coming from them. The radiator has blown. Nothing can be done until a new radiator is fitted. Do you see what is coming next? You need water to survive. Our bodies need water, especially in hot weather we need more water. Make sure your body is kept topped up with water as you make sure your car engine is topped up with water. You can live without food but you can't live without water.

Most car owners know their cars are in need of a service. This is a time where everything or lots of parts are checked. Our bodies need to be kept fit and it is called exercise. Take time out to get some. Walk, walk, walk. We were amazed when we visited one friend in the States and they needed to mail a letter. The Post Office was less than 10 mins walk away but they used the car. 20 mins walk there and back rather than use a car.

Many people can be found outdoors cleaning and making sure their car looks immaculate. They spend a lot of time on their cars why? Because they don't want people saying that their car looks a mess. They don't want someone to write in the dirt on the car CLEAN ME. But somehow people don't take a pride in their appearance. They think because they are overweight they can throw anything on. Many times the wrong thing will make you look 10 lbs heavier, but put the right thing on, stand up straight and you can look like you have lost 5 lbs immediately. It isn't about buying a whole new wardrobe of expensive clothing but of using what you have to the best advantage.

Get to know your body today and give it the same love and attention you would give to your car.

* Do you take more pride in your car making sure it looks and works well than you do with your body?

* Are you concerned about what people say about your car but not about what they say about your body?

* Do you put the right fuel into your car and are you putting the right fuel into your mouth?

* Do you put the right amount of water into your car and also into your body?

* Do you get your car serviced at the right time and do you spend time exercising?

Back to the original question, is your body a well tuned engine? If not what are you going to do today to start the process?

Low Carbs Diets.

The theory is that carbohydrates raise blood sugar levels,
which then kicks in insulin. Insulin drives blood sugar into
the cells and prevents fat breakdown in the body, so you
will not burn excess fat and lose weight. Proponents of
low-carb diets take this one step further. They say that if
carbohydrates raise blood sugar and insulin levels and cause
weight gain, a decrease in carbs will result in lower blood
sugar and insulin levels, leading to weight loss. And
because you are not eating the carbs, your body breaks down
fat to provide needed energy. Some people do lose weight on
low-carb diets, but the weight loss probably is not related
to blood sugar and insulin levels to any extent. A quote
from Donald Hensrud, M.D., a preventive medicine and
nutrition specialist at Mayo Clinic.

What Are Carbohydrates?

Carbs are the main energy source for the human body. As the
name carbohydrate suggests, carbs are a mixture of carbon,
hydrogen and oxygen. Carbohydrates are manufactured inside
plants from carbon dioxide in the air and water, under the
influence of sunlight. (A process called photosynthesis).

Carbohydrate Intake

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans (2005) indicate there
is no set RDA for carbs, although they are an important part
of a healthy diet - both for energy content and nutritional
value. Most dietitians and nutritionists advise a daily carb
intake of between 45-65 percent of total calories. Dietary
fiber - the non digestible type of carbohydrate has been
shown to have a number of beneficial health effects,
including decreased risk of coronary heart disease and
improvement in laxation.

Insulin And Weight Loss.

According to some experts, insulin levels play the largest
role in losing weight.

What is insulin?

Insulin is a hormone that regulates the amount of glucose
(sugar) in the blood and is required for the body to
function normally. Insulin is produced by cells in the
pancreas, called the islets of Langerhans.

Insulin assures your cells receive some blood sugar
necessary for life, and increases glycogen storage. However,
it also drives your body to use more carbohydrates, and less
fat, as fuel. And, insulin converts almost half of your
dietary carbohydrate to fat for storage. If you want to use
more fats for energy, the insulin response must be
moderated. Diets high in refined sugars release more insulin
thereby allowing less stored fat to be burned. High insulin
levels also suppress two important hormones: glucagon and
growth hormone. Glucagon promotes the burning of fat and
sugar. Growth hormone is used for muscle development and
building new muscle mass.

Insulin also causes hunger. As blood sugar increases
following a carbohydrate meal, insulin rises with the
eventual result of lower blood sugar. This results in
hunger, often only a couple of hours (or less) after the
meal. Cravings, usually for sweets, are frequently part of
this cycle, leading you to resort to snacking, often on more
carbohydrates. Not eating makes you feel ravenous shaky, and
moody. If the problem is chronic, you never get rid of that
extra stored fat, and your energy is adversely affected.

Has Your Diet Stalled?

By Allison Preston

Start with a new exercise program and invest in a daily workout. This may motivate you to make dietary changes. Instead of planning to exercise three days a week- make more ambitious exercise goals. Plan to exercise every day even if you know you will not make it. Get an iPod or MP3 player to make your workout fun.

Keep your diet simple. Too much variety can stimulate your appetite and you may be more likely to over eat. Prepare dinners at home instead of eating out. Keep an accurate journal to analyze what you are eating, when you are eating and why. Most dieters often under estimate the calories they are consuming. Writing it down helps you stay committed and accountable.

When eating out, order first so you are not influenced by what others are getting. Stick to healthier choices like salads or grilled fish or chicken. Limit your exposure to high fat food by not bringing them into your house. If you enjoy chocolate, do not just avoid it, because avoidance can lead to cravings and result in binging. Eat other things that are lower in calories and fat but comparable in taste.

If you do overindulge do not beat yourself up but do not slough it off either. Once you determine why it happened, come up with an alternative plan so that next time you will handle the situation better. Daily weighing is a winning weight loss strategy. It is important to know where you are and when you are going up or down.

To control calories have three meals a day and skip snacks. Sometimes even the sight of food can stimulate your appetite. A good support system is helpful in making better diet and exercise decisions. Many people who use weekly meetings with counselors or through internet based programs regain less weight than participants who do not use either. Develop a ritual to help you relax at night so you get a good night’s sleep. To lose or maintain weight there is an ideal sleep zone of about eight hours a night.

Practical Weight Loss Tips

Burn fat with carbohydrates.
When you eat complex carbohydrates like vegetables, beans,
legumes, fresh fruit, whole grains and nuts, your body uses
energy for metabolizing and digesting, thus burning
calories.

Fiber.
Fiber also slows down digestion. Fiber takes allot of energy
to digest, thus burning calories.

Protein at night.
Eat slow-digesting, appetite-suppressing foods like almonds,
skim-milk yogurt or low-fat cheese.

Water.
Drink water, dehydration, not hunger, causes some
overeating. Drink at least eight glasses a day. Water
transports nutrients, remove toxins and rehydrate the body.

Nuts
Almonds and walnuts also triggers the release of
cholecystokinin, a hormone that slows down your appetite.

Walk
Walk before and after you eat, the thermic dynamic action of
digesting your dinner along with the exercise will help you
burn calories. Just before a meal, take a brisk stroll
around the block it will help curb your hunger. Then, 45
minutes after eating, go for another walk.

Causes of Weight Gain

By Mary Mason-Shields

Cellular telephones and computers have made communication very easy. There was a time that you only saw the wealthy or ‘well-to-do’ individual with a cellular telephone. Nowadays, everybody has them. Everywhere you turn you see someone with a cellular telephone attached to his or her ear (or it seems to be attached). Before everyone had a cellular telephone, you would have to walk (or ride) to find a pay telephone to make a telephone call. Not anymore. You see people now with the telephones strapped to their sides, (when they are not talking on them). Why stop what you are doing to get up and make a telephone call, when you have a cellular telephone at your immediate disposal? If you don’t want to talk to anyone, just send him or her a text message.

Computers are everywhere. When computers were first invented, there were only personal computers that had to sit on a desk or table. Nowadays, we have laptop computers that go with us everywhere we go. No more posting a letter. Just send an email. No need to go to the post office to post a letter. You don’t even have to buy a stamp.

In order to gain control over our weight, we must start with realistic expectations. Rather than putting the entire focus on weight loss, we must look toward a healthier attitude when trying to gain control over our weight. A realistic goal for controlling our weight would be about ten pounds a month. With a diet and exercise program, this is a reachable target. We must remember that the weight did not appear all at one time, therefore, the weight will not disappear all at one time.
Another deterrent in weight control management is the media. With all the hoopla regarding the many diet pills on the market, it is difficult to concentrate and focus on a healthy regime when trying to gain control over our weight. The media presents many ways of getting the perfect body shape and looks by proposing new diets that will work miracles, not to mention the exercise equipment that supposedly helps do the work for us.

Deciding what to do to control our weight, we must weed through all the diet commercials and diet paraphernalia to find what will fit our needs. Researching the dozens of diet regimes on the market today takes plenty of concentration remembering what our specific needs are.
While trying to gain control over our weight, we must adhere to two main factors, diet and exercise. Diet and exercise is the means for losing weight and toning up at the same time.

The Differences Of Female And Male Fat Metabolism.

The definition of fat metabolism - a metabolic process that
breaks down ingested fats into fatty acids and glycerol and
then into simpler compounds that can be used by cells of the
body.

There are several differences between the fat storage and
fat metabolism of men and women. First of all, in women body
fact percentages tend to be greater than those of men.
Additionally, while women usually store more of their fat in
the gluteal-femoral region (the hips and thighs), men tend
to store more of their fat in the abdominal region. The main
difference between men and that of women fat metabolism is
supported by scientific studies.

According to scientists, the fat in the abdominal zone is
easier to metabolize than the fat in the gluteal-femoral
area. Additionally, a greater amount of alpha receptors,
which promote the storage of fat, are generally found in the
hips and thighs of women. These two factors mean that men
usually have faster a fat metabolism than women do, and are
thus more successful at losing weight.

Increase Your Metabolism

The best way to increase your metabolism is by creating a
higher demand for calories. This is usually accomplished
through exercise. People who exercise on a regular basis
naturally can eat more food without gaining weight because
they use more calories. In a healthy person, cardiovascular
exercise creates a demand for more calories.

Quick Start Weight Loss For A Man

By Brett Nordin

Weight loss for a man isn't really too different then weight loss for a woman. When it comes down to it, all of the same things are entailed, it's just guys usually have different habits then the ladies. What we are going to talk about right now are the few things that you can start doing that will increase your success level for weight loss.

Bad habits will have to die hard in order to succeed in this health race. Most of us know the habits I am talking about, but for those who don't, I will list a couple off as examples. Fast food lunches instead of home made lunches, and another is drinking beer. Now, I'm not saying you need to cut them out all together, just try and limit them. A way to help limit the habits is having better alternatives around. Like I said above, pack a lunch for work, if you have one made there will be no reason to go get fast food. Usually a lot of our unhealthy choices come from not being prepared and organized.

This brings us to our next topic, be organized. No, this doesn't mean that if you have a clean organized home you will lose weight. What I mean is that having stuff written down and getting certain things prepared will help you succeed. Have the health and fitness related things that you want accomplished written down on paper. If you are going to make lunches for yourself everyday in the week, make sure and be prepared enough to have all the food you will need to make those lunches. You are probably thinking, well this stuff is easy. The truth is that weight loss for a man is easy. In order to make it work though, you need to be consistent.

Which takes us to our last point, stay committed and positive. You may not see results within a week, don't get discouraged. If you stay committed and keep a positive mind the results will come. Use these simple concepts and you will find yourself on the road to good health and feeling better. There will be days where you feel you need junk food, or you think that eating healthy is too hard. Days like those are where you need to take control and follow through with what you want to accomplish and achieve. Stay positive and you will see the results you are looking for.

The majority of all people over look the final thing I would like to share. Again, it is something very simple, but can also affect the weight loss for a man. Water! Try and drink your daily body requirements of water. Your body will thank you for it.
