Energetic Healing - The Difference Between Healing and Transformation
By Michael R White
When talking about healing it is important to understand what is happening on an energetic level.
The human make up is complex and its easy to over simplify and therefor confuse things.
There are a few things to consider when looking into energetic healing. The most important thing is to ask yourself what is it you want to get out of a healing session?
If there is something in your body of energy that needs healing it is important to ask yourself what is the cause of the condition? In terms of subtle bodies there are two main levels that can be worked with in healing and transformation.
The closest to the physical body is the etheric body. This is often referred to as the body of life force.
In Vedanta it is called "the prana maya kosha". This translates to "the envelope made of life force". We absorb life force from the food we eat and the air we breath. The word "chi" in traditional Chinese medicine is used to describe the same level of the body of energy as the prana maya kosha. The same level of life force is called the etheric in the models of consciousness developed by Rudolf Steiner.
The next level of subtle bodies is the Astral body. The layer of mental consciousness. The level of thoughts and emotions. This is called the "mana maya kosha" in Vedanta and translates to "the envelope made of mind".
The physical, etheric and astral can be likened to a sponge soaked with water. The sponge would correlate to the physical, the water would correlate to the etheric while the astral would correlate to the oxygen in the water.
Most problems that manifest in the body of life force are symptoms of the astral body. In Vedanta the word samskara is used to describe the emotional knots that occur in the level of the mind or astral body.
So how does this relate to healing exactly? Well you could have an energetic healing on a stomach ulcer and the healing would address the etheric level of the ulcer and may relieve the symptoms. The problem here is that the true cause of the ulcer has not been addressed. The source of the problem is in the astral.
If a healer was able to unravel the problem on the astral level they would not be helping you in the long term. The ulcer is a manifestation of a samskara. But to take away someone's samskara would go against the integrity of the healer.
Our samskaras are the keys to our personal development in life. They can be resolved and transformed and ultimately help us learn and develop. This is why it would be wrong to remove someone's samskara even if it where possible to do so.
Often when looking for healing people want a quick fix. This is part of the problem because when seen from the level of samskaras there are no quick fixes. It takes effort to work through a samskaric issue and that effort must come from inside. This is one the key principles in transformation.
When a samskara is dealt with and resolved from inside a permanent transformation takes place. This also has the added benefit of resolving the issue at the source of the problem. When the cause of the issue is resolved on the level of the samskara the issue will no longer reflect into the etheric.
Any symptoms that have manifested in the physical can be dealt with normally. The important thing is that the cause has been revealed and resolved permanently.
The principles of transformation are profound when seen from this perspective because there is an empowerment that cannot come from a healing session.
If looked at from the perspective of reincarnation dealing with the samskara is much more powerful than healing the symptoms in the etheric. In many theory's of reincarnation we bring our samskaras from life to life while our etheric is merely part of our physical vehicle. So any physical symptoms will die with the body, while the cause of those symptoms will carry through to the next incarnation.
While some people have past life experiences of while working on samskaras its is not required that you believe in past lives to successfully resolve a samskara.
In essence this work is about experience and not about belief. Often your experiences will change what you believe. But your beliefs will not alter your potential experiences.
If one looks at healing from this perspective it's completely different from the common and romantic ideals about healing. We can have things healed or worked on by a healer but ultimately we are not fundamentally different until we address the source of the problem.
If a cars wheel alignment is out, then the tires will wear unevenly and require changing more often, no matter how many times you change the tires they will always continue to wear to quickly while the cause of the problem is not addressed. This why transformation is so empowering. To deal with the problem at it's source is awakening, life changing and lasting!
